Overview
The Africa Electrification Initiative (AEI) objective was to raise awareness for Sub-Saharan Africa practitioners on the design and implementation of RBF/OBA approaches.
Activities included:
- A session on RBF/OBA promoted by the World Bank and other donors in the regional workshop for rural electrification agencies, ministries of energy, power utilities
- Research and analysis on RBF/OBA approaches for grid densificatio and mini-grids development
- Internal and external promotion of OBA/RBF approaches
Operational work completed.
The publication "Connection Charges and Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa" can be found in the World Bank Policy Research Working Paper Series.
The book “From the Bottom Up How Small Power Producers and Mini-Grids Can Deliver Electrification and Renewable Energy in Africa” jointly funded by AFREA, ESMAP and GPOBA was also published and is available on the World Bank’s Open Knowledge Repository.
